Meet the Shellfish Heroes, the men behind Cornwall’s Tastiest Catch
Shellfish are an important part of the fish landings for many of Cornwall’s smaller coves and harbours. From Cadgwith, on the Lizard, to Cawsand in the south east, from Port Isaac on the north coast to Penberth in the far west, Cornish fishermen can be found working in a time-honoured way using pots for brown crab and lobster and tangle nets for spider crab.
Catching shellfish has a long history, and many of today’s fishermen use methods and traditions handed down from one generation to the next. From their fathers and grandfathers they have learned skills and an understanding of the sea bed and local coastline that are second to none. They make it their business to know where to find the biggest, most flavoursome crabs and lobsters.
